hey , how are ya, interesting point, maybe there has only been a few people covering lizzy tracks because they were perfect then as they are now, even with modern technology and methods, how could you improve something that cant be improved. it would be great if some tracks could be rocked up a bit , but would they be better?
one point that has been mentioned somewhere is why in my experience do the cover bands just cover the same tracks , limehouse lizzy as brilliant as they are ,[no mallice meant wayne if you read this]seem to play the same mix of tracks time and time again, wouldnt it be great to hear some of the classic album numbers covered especially early tracks, little girl in bloom, wot a solo on this one, borderline off johnny the fox a classic ballad , or even fools gold or soldier of fortune , all classic numbers with great riffs , all would be ace live , i understand that cover bands have to play tracks that people know, yeah it gets the crowds in , but there are so many lizzy numbers that people havnt heard , what do ya think.
There are hundreds of covers out there.

Hey Manser,
Sure you haven't missed one ?
You seem to have everything covered there but the question is why doesn't a present day rock band use Lizzy number to propell them into the charts.
In other words out of all the 200 odd Lizzy songs wouldn't you think someone could spice it up and get a friggin hit or number one out it.
Back in the day Lizzy had some great music and I often wonder how in the hell they didn't have more success.
Just listen to the crap people play today and the hits they get for pure rubbish.
Anyway I think for Philos 25th we should have an open air concert in Dublin with all those rock bands doing Lizzy covers.
I know January 4th is symbolic but its bloody freezing then, around his Birthday I was thinking.
Its up to all us fans to get a petition going and getting something done.
Who is behind me ???
hey lizzyfan, ya got a great idea there ,who would we approach though for such a gig

Well Smiley's your best bet!
But Bono, Bob Geldof and Paul McGuinness are the main players.
Since Smiley rubbed shoulders with Paul McGuinness and Bob Geldof was a late friend of Philos, I think its about time those people along with U2's help should stage a major gig say in Phoenix Park in Dublin or Crooke Park.
If they can do it for Live Aid and The G8 gig in Hyde park.
These guys have the gear and the know how and the money.
Freddie Mercury had a big send off in Wembley.
Its about time Bob did something for Philip.
Smiley could be MC thats if he wants the job.
A Summer gig around Philos birthday would be better on his 25th Anniversary of his passing.
I am sure all the major acts would line up to be apart of that big day.
International acts as well as our own blood playing at least two Lizzy / Philo numbers and one of their own.
If I was a millionaire, I would not think twice about putting the money up front to show my appreciation to that great man, we owe him alot.
Its up to all the fans who look up this forum to do something , make a stand, stand up and be counted.
We can debate about which tracks are the best for as long as we want, but the only track or trek I want is the one to Crooke Park for The Remembering Philip Lynott Concert.

Well your right there we could go on and on, smiley or roddie i dont know if you are reading this but if you are what are your thoughts, and would we have your support and help, also what is Philomenas opinion.

I cannot speak for Smiley but i would doubt he'd go for it. The vibe is his baby and that takes all his time. Add the fact his recent illness and I'm sure you get the picture.......................the logistics of getting a gig on the scale ur proposing is practically impossible......getting Croke Park is definately out.........
You mention that people like Paul McGuinness and Bob Geldof etc have the money. Its not just a case of money, theres insurance (both artists and audience.) There's accomodation for the artists to be considered. DO u think Bon Jovi/slash etc etc etc would be willing to pay for that, themselves?......... Doubt it......
... The force u need to get something on the scale u propose needs to be enormous .
Then theres the question of security, which the organiser would have to cover.
Talk to the people who organise their local tribute nights and they will give u a slight glimpse of the organisation involved.
I am not trying to put down the idea. I am just pointing out some of the pitfalls and the enormity of such a project.
I hope u understand my views as putting them on type is not as easy as actually speaking face to face.
I have been and continue to be involved in many gigs in and near where i live and the amount of pressure on organisers is huge......and thats just small local gigs!
A project on the scale u dream off would require a major promoter to be involved and they wont get involved unless they can see a profit at the end of it all...thats the reality of it
roddie
Roddie,
Thanks for coming back on this Topic, of course you are right in many respects, but its good to put the idea out there!
You don't know who reads these pages and maybe someone who has a bit of ambition will possibly consider the idea.
The Vibe is a big undertaking and I know and hope Smiley will have a great one for the 25th in a couple of years time.
After all this is a forum and I do apologise if I ruffled any feathers amongst the Roisin Dubh officials, but Philips needs one hell of a send off and the 25th is that one and only time in our life time to do it.
And Yes the smaller tributes are a good starting base and can't wait for Tribute to the Black Rose in Arklow, I have met the organizer and he is going to put on one hell of a show and like a mini Vibe its over Three days, Fair play to him and the best of Luck.
My Top 5 Lizzy/Lynott-songs (for today) are:
A Tribute To Sandy (Clann Eadair with Phil Lynott)
Sitamoia (Thin Lizzy)
Old Town (Phil Lynott)
This Is The One (Thin Lizzy)
Renegade (Thin Lizzy)
