this is so hard, because my favourites will always be changing because well, there just isnt a single bad lizzy track

at this moment in time i would say: Got to Give it Up (almost seems like a cry for help), Freedom Song (the line about jack being hung sends a chill down my spine), Massacre, Angel of Death, Baby please dont go, Emerald, Don't Believe a word and still in love with you

and if it counts, the john sykes & phil lynott please don't leave me

i really could go on but i wanted to keep the list fairly short, ah throw bad habits in there too.. it would be wrong not to with a username like mine haha
My top 10:

1. The boys are back in town - obvious I know but you cant ignore the genius of the track

2. Dont believe a word: great guitar solo, simple, lyrics are great and phils voice is to notch

3. Roisin Dubh (Black Rose) - The greatest piece of music ever written. Phil's genius shining through once again

4. Fools Gold - It's just plain awesome

5: Sarah (BL album) - Heartfelt and simple

6. The sun Goes Down - Deep, meaningful and one of the saddest songs ive heard

7. Still in love with you - great guitar solo

8. waiting for an alibi - twin guitar harmony

9. Wild one - Just plain amazing

10. Kings vengeance - again just awesome
hey Stephen, thats not a bad selection you got there, FOOLS GOLD is one of Lizzys most under rated tracks ever, maybe because it was from an earlier album i dont know, it is one of my current favs, the vocals are great and the riffs excelant, but its the lyrics that get me, all the way through , the way Phil has got that rhythm written into the lyrics is amazing , and everything seems to rhyme , its just flows from one verse to the next.

a similar example in my opinion is GET OUTA HERE, again the way the words are written makes the track , punchy and straight to the point.

maybe it was Phils style , i cant think of anymore examples at the moment as i am at work , but if anyone else agrees /disagrees please add to the discussion.

As for the BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN , i just dont know, maybe its becos i have heard it so many times ,yes i know its probably the most well known track , and we all know its brilliant , but personally [im gonna get a loada stick for this] i think there are far better tracks both musically and lyrically, and it is such a pity that non-lizzy enthusiasts /fans have not had the chance to listen to some of the more abstract less known album tracks [are you all bored yet] i know i go on and on about it , but the tribute bands i have seen play all the hits and favs but fail to play the things that true fans wanna hear, recently i saw limehouse lizzy recently , and i shouted out for them to play fools gold , the answer from wayne was "we dont know that one " come on lets hear some of the good stuff.

Have you ever had the pleasure of hearing either Tizz Lizzy or Gnasher (Jimmy Coup, Lenny and Brian Grace)?

Both these bands have played some of the more obscure Lizzy songs in their sets all of which are very well received by die hard supporters and the casual fan. Sadly Tizz Lizzy have called it a day but Gnasher (in some form or other) will continue to do the lesser played songs.
hi Roddie, to be honest i havnt no, i have seen a few tiz lizzy bits on youtube , i keep meaning to get over there for the vibe or birthday gigas i believe they are excellant gigs, but work always seems to get in the way or £'s , and everytime i speak to Philomena or Graham they invite me over , its just getting the time and money to do it,i also want to go to the grave to pay my respects, and explore all the PHIL areas of dublin , i think it would be a very emotional trip for me.

Hope you make the Vibe sometime.

Not only will you love it, you'll be most welcome
hi roddie, or anyone may be able to answer this, which is the best Phil and grand slam cd to buy, there seems to be lots of differant opinions.
thats a bit like asking which is the best Thin Lizzy album to listen to. I quess its down to personal choice. "Twilights last Gleaming" would be my choice as I love the version of "A Night In The Life..........."

roddie
well its just that i have never heard any grand slam stuff ,and there is a lot of differances of opinions, but yeah i take your point, but that would make a good thread wouldnt it, which is the best Lizzy album, i guess my opinion changes from week to week, i always love the early stuff , so usually i would say fighting or even nightlife, but at the moment in my car i have live and dangerous, i never tire of it.
yea , I have a tendency to listen to the earlier stuff also. The Grand Slam does not really do it for me apart from a couple of songs. As I mentioned in another thread, "Vagabonds....." still rattles my cage
